About 2017- 2018 Elementary Battle of the Books

The Battle of the Books is a reading incentive program sponsored by the North Carolina School Library Media Association (NCSLMA).  In the 1940’s a librarian started this contest as a radio program in Chicago.  The program was so successful that it spread across the United States.  In North Carolina grades 4-8 can participate in the competition.

This year participating elementary students are asked to read the same 15 books. Teams from each school compete against each other in a countywide “battle.”  Media coaches at Manchester Elementary School form a team of approximately 6 – 12 students who read and practice together from September until the Cumberland County School EBOB Competition in March.  All interested 4th and 5th graders are encouraged to try out for the school team.  The first qualifying requirement is a passing score on a quiz of titles and their authors.  Contact Rebecca McLean for more information.
