Principal’s Minute Script

Good evening, this is Kailey Hill the principal at Manchester Elementary School with your Manchester Principal’s Minute times two.

It is the second week of state-mandated school closing in an effort to slow the spread of the Coronavirus. Schools are scheduled to be closed through at least March 30th. Cumberland County Schools provided a review packet for students to complete over the course of the two weeks called Cumberland@home to deepen learning on skills and topics already taught throughout the year. No grades will be submitted during this 2-week school closure and new learning should not be introduced. CCS is encouraging participation and completion of the remote learning opportunity to prevent the loss of academic skills.

Some of our Manchester Parents inquired about online activities that could be used. Students can log into Success Maker but for the duration of these two weeks, doing so is completely optional and at the discretion and resources of the families.

We continue to provide lunch and breakfast for any child up to 18 years old at W. T. Brown Elementary on Andrews Road and the Spring Lake Community Center on Ruth Street Monday through Friday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. To see the full list of locations for Curbside Meal Service, go to the Cumberland County Schools website: ccs.k12.nc.us.

Last but not least, I want to say my most sincere and heartfelt thank you to you our parents and guardians. I know you guys are doing your best to balance your responsibilities and keep a learning atmosphere for your children. Please know that I, along with the Manchester staff, am proud to partner with you. We miss your children so very dearly and we can’t wait for when we can hug them and welcome them back to school.

Until that time, we will follow the guidance of our government and health officials in hopes to flatten the Coronavirus curve.

Families are encouraged to visit the CDC website www.cdc.gov/COVID19 for the most accurate and timely information about the virus. For more information, visit: and for additional guidance visit www.coronavirus.ccs.k12.nc.us, www.co.cumberland.nc.us/covid19, and www.ncdhhs.gov/.

This has been your Manchester Principal’s Minute. Have a good evening and a safe week.
