February was a month for winners on the Eagle campus!  Shayla Pangelinan represented Manchester Elementary at the Pine Forest District Spelling Bee after winning the school level competition.  Shayla did remarkably well as she competed against other talented spellers from several elementary and middle schools from the Pine Forest District.  Shayla secured the title of 1st runner up for our district.  Several students submitted entries for the Blessed Are Public Servants (BAPS) poster contest (K-2) and essay contest (3-5).  Kindergarten, 1st, and 2nd grade students were asked to create a picture of Fire Fighters doing their job.  Third through fifth grade students were invited to write a short essay on the topic, “Why Are Police Important?”  The following students won $10 gift cards for their poster submissions: Cameron Hartwick, Alicia Krahling, Tiffene Askew-Johnson, Roger Bolt-Ray, Raniyah Kinney, Benjamin Jones, and Devon Sallese.  Bethany Stephans won $25 gift card for her essay.  Representatives from the City of Spring Lake will be on hand March 10th to celebrate these students.  Congratulations to all of our students!

Triple Nickles 1

On Feb. 27, 2015, Manchester Elementary School warmly received representatives from the 555th Parachute Infantry Battalion, also known as the “Triple Nickles,” in honor of Black History Month.  The Triple Nickles were America’s first all African-American parachute unit.  Guest speakers Andre Booker, Kenneth Turner, and Carvis Taybron highlighted the dedication, determination, and above-reproach behavior that these history-making soldiers demonstrated in a segregated military.  The veterans encouraged the students to prosper by having hope and determination to meet their goals.
